Update as a Trim Healthy Mama

I have not lost a huge amount of weight in the last many weeks.  However I can tell that my body is changing shape and I am getting away from sugar use.  That is a very good thing.  I have lost about 5 pounds total with some fluctuations.  I have increased my water intake and now that the weather is lovely spring time, my hubby and I have started our 30 minute walks in a nearby small town that has sidewalks.  I have confidence that if I hunker down and am more careful to follow the plan closely I will have the success I desire......The most important thing being keeping the blood sugar levels even with no spiking.    Will be starting gardening soon.  I have cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and cabbage plants, as well as Romaine lettuce and baby spinach starts.  Oh, and onion sets, white and yellow.

New Beginnings

I have been away from this blog a looooonnnnng time, as in 4 years.  Everyday I think about trying to lose weight and never get around to doing it.  I have just come across the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle change (THM) for short.  There is a Facebook page that has tremendous helps, recipes, encouragement by many women who are being successful in their quest for a healthy new life.  Based on Christian principles and sound research for what works well in the body for good nutrition as well as weight loss and then maintaining, this book seems to be just the right book at the right time for me.  I have assembled the items to help me in the cooking of the healthy meals, now I just have to do it.  I haven't forgotten about T-Tapp either.  T-Tapp More is another way to manage the body into a healthy life.  I am 67 years old and if I don't get busy,God may call me home and I will have lost the race(in a manner of speaking). [Don't get me wrong, I know that I have been redeemed, just not obedient in this area of my life.]  God expects us to take care of our bodies as it is the temple for His Holy Spirit which guides us into all truth through God's Word.  Anyway, hoping 2014 is my year to become healthy...overcoming Diabetes, High Cholesterol and other minor issues that will be better without extra weight.  I have read accounts of ladies getting off all their medications.  May I be one of those ladies!!

So here's to you Pearl and Serene....Let's GO!

My day-does working at home count as exercise???

Today was my day off. My day off always consists of errands, yard work, housework, laundry, and sometimes cooking.
Today I weed wacked our postage stamp sized yard. I bought a weed eater thinking I could keep up with the yard thru the winter since the grass hardly grows at all in FL winter. You just get straggly weeds here and there. But I discovered that it is too much for my cyctocele rectocele issues and will not be doing it again unless I do it in little bits on different days. I thought I could save us some money but I may have to just pay the man to do it.

Baked a turkey breast this AM, had some for lunch and fixed a really nice evening meal for hubby. Did the laundry but still have the last of two loads in the dryer. That may not get folded till tomorrow. Managed to get several apples peeled sliced and in the freezer but have many more to go. Will do that over the next few evenings. I am finished for today. Must go to work tomorrow. Need to begin my T-tapp again but procrastinating because of hurting. I am bad, I know.

Gardening

Worked hard today at gardening. 1-2 hours moving dirt to put around base of my Wooden Square (see Overwhelmed.com blog page). Also got 2 blueberry bushes and a blackberry bush planted that my eldest son's family gave me for Mother's Day. Worked at scratching the ground to apply grass seed in the front yard around Wooden Square as it is basically non-existent from the drought. Planted a burpless bush cucumber and 1 green bell pepper plant. Worked till I was red in the face and sweating all over. Will try to T-Tapp tonight. Going to a friend's house for a cookout around 2PM. Lost 2 pounds this week. Yipee!

Daily Log

I forgot to take my FBG today but I did take it after lunch to see how I am processing. About 1 hour after lunch it was 92. It was 192 after eating too many muffins the other night. As I said before I do not wish to repeat that experience.

I decided to walk this evening around our mobile home park up and down every street and logged 1.97 miles. I listened to my mp3 player to an audio Bible reading of Numbers. I am working my way through the Bible having started with Genesis. Walking and listening to the Bible seems a good way to redeem that time. Mind and Body working for the Lord.

I am thinking of T-tapping one day and walking the next through the week. I am trying to be careful of my knees. I don't want to get them so sore that I have to layoff for weeks.
Food Log: 1 Belgian Waffle with butter, real maple syrup and 1 egg.
1 cup of Lactose Free Reduced Fat Milk
Quarter Pounder w/cheese, a few fries, diet coke
Mixed Fruit Smoothie
2 snacks-1/2 cup no sugar added ice cream w/small wedge angel food
cake
A few potato chips, diet coke

Checking in again

Thursday May 21 my FBG was 89
Friday May 22 my FBG was 92
Saturday May 23 my FBG was 99

I was very careful on Wednesday watching that I kept my sugar intake on the low side and was rewarded with the Thurs. low. I was very pleased with that. Thursday was the day we ate out late in the evening and was surprised that Friday was as good as it was. Friday night I made the yummy Apple muffins that my daughter'-in-law recommended and I ate too many of them. I had a racing heart and feeling that my insides were vibrating for quite a while. I do not want to repeat that. Very uncomfortable. I think I am coming to terms more with my diabetes diagnosis and want to reverse it even more than ever.

Thursday AM I did my T-Tapp routine, Friday skipped because of fatigue and knee concerns and I missed again Saturday. So I T-tapped 3 days of 5 so far this week. Will try to publish a food log daily so that I stay on top of my sugar issues.

I helped daughter today(Saturday) man handle 6-40 pound bags of cow manure compost, 6 of mushroom compost, equal amounts of peat moss and perlite to fill up her 3 square foot gardening squares. We dumped 1 of each type of bag in a tarp, flipped it around to mix, dragged it to the receiving square and dumped it. That was a bit of exercise, I do believe, so I didn't skip all physical activity today:-)
